Theater: An Educational Tool to Combat the Pandemic

Since its foundation, CAFÉ Wenatchee’s (Community for the Advancement of Family Education) primary mission and goals have been to promote education, community participation, leadership, and environmental justice. So when the pandemic hit, they responded to the health crisis by calling on its community to stay informed.

Establishing strategic alliances with other organizations in Chelan County, and with funding provided by the WA State Department of Health, CAFÉ began producing campaigns and organizing vaccination clinics using the Care/a/Van offered by the Department of Health to bring information and vaccines to those who needed it. And since education is one of the most important goals of its mission, CAFÉ teamed up with a group of actors from Olympia Family Theater from Seattle to create a bilingual community theater project. With collaboration from community members, who performed and helped create the messages, they have successfully educated the public about the coronavirus and the importance of the vaccine in a very creative and fun way.
