Volunteering: A Key to Fighting the Pandemic

COVID-19 has devastated hundreds of thousands of families across the country. In Washington State, the Latino community has been one of the most affected, registering 33% more infections than other groups. LatinX Unidos of The South Sound is one of the grassroots community groups in Pierce County that immediately got organized to respond to the pandemic. With funding provided by the Washington State Department of Health, they were able to bring much-needed information and resources to Latino families in that area to deal with the pandemic. LUSS also created and mobilized a group of Volunteer Promoters who held vaccination clinics and went around neighborhoods and businesses to promote information about COVID-19 and vaccinate as many people as possible.
